This new liquid scintillator provides several properties of particular value to research and applied physics.

The ingredients employed in this formulation provide very low solvent action and low flammability characteristics.   At the time of this writing, EJ-399-09 has undergone over five weeks of exposure to scintillating and WLS fibers at 60°C with no chemical attack to either the core or the cladding.   It is particularly suited for intermediate sized detectors employing common commercial plastics in their container fabrication, such acrylics and PVC.   It provides 20% greater light output than the common mineral oil based liquids scintillators having similar plastic compatibility.
The liquid base is comprised of mineral oil and high molecular weight aromatic solvents.
It exhibits very low chemical toxicity and has almost no odor.
